3 Mar 2010 - SUCCESS IN NIGERIA FOR HULL OIL AND GAS ENGINEERS
The OSL team has spent five months working with Oando, the largest indigenous oil company in Nigeria, providing front end design for a new 30 million dollar LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) storage and distribution facility at Apapa, near Lagos.
The success of the initial project means the Hull company is now well placed to win more work in Nigeria and elsewhere on the African continent.
Once completed, the huge Apapa scheme will help transform the lives of tens of thousands of people who until now have had to rely on a limited fuel supply consisting mainly of the Government-subsidised household kerosene.
OSL, an award-winning company formed in 2005, has already gained recognition for its work with other international partners, but this was the first time it had been appointed to deliver its expertise on the African continent.
Nick Jones, OSL Director and co-founder, said: “Being awarded this contract in the first place was a significant step forward for OSL. It can only enhance our chances of securing more large-scale contracts of this nature.
“The front end design has given Oando a good estimate of the actual cost and definition of the project, enabling them to move to the contract and bidding stage. Although we have completed our initial task, we hope to continue to work with Oando by assisting them with the appointment of the main contractor and procurement for the scheme.”
LPG is regarded as the fuel of the future in Nigeria. Mr Uti Kronakegha, a representative of the Nigerian Government’s Department of Petroleum Resource, said: “LPG is a clean fuel and has many social economic benefits. By making it more readily available to our people, it will greatly enhance their lives.
“It is also very important for us to see our people benefit from the transfer of skills, expertise and technology that OSL have brought to this project.”
