Third Party Field Development
Optimus were requested by a major gas producer to develop a viable technical solution for the facilities modifications required for a third party gas field development.
The cost of the project was estimated at around £4 million. The study was completed in 8 weeks with a multidiscipline project team. The third party gas field was being developed through one route of an existing gas production system which although technically feasible did not present the best strategic option to both the gas producer and the third part field owners.
Optimus were tasked with delivering the technical solution for a better strategic option in a short timescale to allow the alternative option to be presented before commercial terms were set in place for the original option.
There were a number of technical challenges to be undertaken. The gas field had a high water to gas ratios and the route for production required the addition of onshore reception facilities to handle the separation and disposal of the water. The new facilities needed to be installed in an existing operating gas terminal.
The study deliverables required needed to support a significant change to the business negotiations. This required all the information to provide technical assurance of the option as well as sufficient information to generate a robust cost estimate, schedule and risk register.
The benefit of using Optimus was their ability to quickly provide a team of experienced and able individuals to complete the process design, mechanical specification, piping arrangements, control and instrumentation arrangements as well as civil and structural arrangements.
Timely and coordinated production of the information allowed vendors to be involved in providing current cost information for the main equipment items as well as allowing tie in requirements on the brown field site to be identified and a construction estimate and project schedule to be produced.
Optimus delivered the study within the timescale to allow the gas producer to present a credible, more strategically aligned alternative to the original option which was adopted by both parties for further commercial discussions.
